Half Way There!!

Today I am 20 weeks pregnant!! Hooray!!

On Friday I had my 20 week ultrasound and my little one looks healthy and .... (drumroll please) .... looks like a girl!!  I would have been thrilled either way, but knowing it's a little girl inside me just has me over the moon with joy.

I celebrated the news by purchasing about several baby girl clothes on Saturday.  I totally lucked out, because just as I developed the urge to splurge on gender-specific clothing, my neighbourhood Bay was having an awesome sale on baby clothes.  They had a huge selection of gorgeous clearance items,  most of which were great names like Baby Guess, but just going out of season now.  In addition to original mark downs (generally 50%) the sale offered an additional 50% off the lowest price!

So, for less than $50, tax included, I scored four darling outfits, one lovely sleeper, two t-shirts and a pair of pink skulls no-slip booties!  Hopefully the technician was right about the gender, but if not, one of our friends will be coming into a very nice gift when they announce a new baby girl!

Being and the half way mark and knowing the gender makes this pregnancy that much more real and exciting to me.  The only challenge now is waiting another 20 weeks to dress my little princess!  How will I find the patience??

Maternity - Mad Men Style

When I first discovered Mad Men I developed a major obsession with the show, not least of all because of the costumes.  The formality of daily dressing in the early 1960's makes the simple act of leaving one's home suddenly seem incredibly inspiring.

Whether in the office, at a party, or even horseback riding, the female characters of Mad Men rock impeccable style that can be breathtaking to behold.  I love the fact that the female office workers, in particular Joan Hollaway, manage to pull off a style that is at once work appropriate and incredibly sexy.  Joan, played by the uber-curvy Christina Hendricks, owns her femininity in a way that is equally alluring and commanding.

As a woman who is almost as curvy as Christina Hendricks and has left my 20's behind me ....

Baby Bump Must Have - The Maxi Dress!

It's no wonder the maxi dress is a maternity style staple among Hollywood's leading the ladies.  The style is extremely flexible with most styles flexible enough to accommodate your figure from conception straight through to delivery.  They can also be extremely elegant, super comfortable, and can be transitioned between seasons by adding cardigans, scarves and fall jackets.

Both Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba have made the maxi the main ingredient in pregnancy style and they are definitely on to something!

17 Weeks!!

Hooray, I am 17 weeks pregnant today! For the most part, I am feeling great, although I still find that I am excessively tired after any significant output of energy and will gladly fall into Rip Van Winkle style naps given half the chance. Isn't exhaustion supposed to ease off in the second trimester? Either way, I am very grateful that the nausea is over and that, while I'm tired, the thought of making it through the work day no longer seems an insurmountable task.

Perhaps the biggest adjustment at the moment is the ...

In Good Company

Is it just me, or does seem to be a lot of pregnant celebrities right now? The list of celebs with child at the same time as me include: January Jones, Jessica Alba, Tori Spelling, Mel B., Rebecca Gayheart, Jenna Fischer, Lily Allen, Emily Deschanel, Ali Landry and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. And since I'm just in the early stages of the second trimester, it's entirely possible that a whole slew of baby bumps have yet to be revealed. In fact, the rumour mill is already spinning about ....

Baby Bump Style Tip - Luxurious Fabrics!

Since becoming pregnant, I have become somewhat of a luxury fabric connoisseur. I realize that my style options will be limited in mid to late pregnancy and that could continue for quite a few months post-partum. To make up for that deficit, I am increasingly drawn to higher end brands and richer fabrics (on sale of course) that will keep me feeling elegant when my figure is anything but!

The Best Part of Being Pregnant

Yes, creating new life is pretty cool. And knowing that my husband and I will be parents soon is also pretty nifty. But I have to admit, the most awesome benefit of being pregnant so far has been .... NEW CLOTHES!
